Every donated ponytail brings us one step closer to creating a beautiful, natural-looking wig. While most wigs require additional hair to achieve the quality and fullness our recipients deserve, your donation significantly reduces our out-of-pocket costs—which means we can help more people.

Hair Donation Guidelines

Acceptable Hair

✓ Minimum length: 10 inches (measured from tip to tip when ponytail is stretched)
✓ Clean and dry hair in a ponytail or braid
✓ Colored or permed hair is acceptable
✓ Healthy processed hair can be accepted
✓ Gray hair can be accepted
✓ Dreadlocks are welcome
✓ Slightly layered hair is fine if it meets length requirements

 

Not Acceptable

✗ Severely bleached or damaged hair (breaks down during processing)
✗ Hair swept from the floor (must be bundled before cutting)
✗ Moldy, wet, or dirty hair
✗ Synthetic hair or extensions

 

How to Donate

Step 1: Prepare Your Hair

Before cutting:

• Wash and dry your hair thoroughly (no products)

• Tie your hair into one or multiple ponytails/braids using rubber bands

• Ponytails should be tight and secure at both ends

 

Step 2: Cut Your Hair

• Have your stylist cut above the rubber band (on the head side)

• You can go to any salon or cut at home

• Place hair in a resealable plastic bag immediately after cutting

 

Step 3: Package Your Donation

• Place the bagged hair in a padded envelope

• Download, complete, and print the Hair Donation Form [link to form]

• Important: If your hair has been chemically processed (colored, permed, relaxed, etc.), please mark this on your form

• Optional: If you'd like us to feature your donation on social media, take before and after photos and email them to hairthatcares@hairlineillusions.com with your name and story

• Include your completed form with your hair donation
